Jaywalk Blog Reflection

From the responses i received about american exceptionalism is that most people do not know much about American history. One person gave an answer that was completely wrong but this shows me that we are not teaching and learning much about american history. I asked a teacher the same question and they raddled the answers off easy. I saw the complete opposite when i asked the pop culture question. This really showed me that younger people are more in touch and engulfed in pop culture. The older the people i asked the less they knew about pop culture. This shows me the older generation are not as connected or interested in pop culture as the younger generations are. Then i asked people bout a norm that we should all know. I asked “Why do we raise our hands when we have a question” the answers i got from all age groups where pretty much the same. Which shows how much of a norm it is and how it is a kind of conformity to have everyone doing the same thing or “brainwashed” to do so when they have a question. But this norm we do is also used for order to prevent chaos among class rooms. One question that really surprised me was the question I asked about the US ranking in math. Most people though we were either really low or really high. Which is interesting even though we are on the high side it was nowhere near what people think. People were saying 105th and 3rd and things like that but we are actually 38th. This showed me that either people had too much confidence in america or had non at all. One more thing i had noticed was that it was mostly white kids putting us very high ranked while minority students thought we were low. This help me understand their different views on america and its education.
